Overnight Postpartum Doula Care

Overnight Postpartum Doula Care

What does an overnight postpartum doula do?

An overnight postpartum doula from Hudson Valley Family Doulas cares for your newborn through the night so you can sleep. Your doula meets every need as it arises. Based on your preferences, your doula either bottle feeds your baby or brings your baby to you for nursing, then settles your baby back down so you can return to sleep quickly.

What happens during an overnight shift?

  • Feeds handled your way: bottle feeding, or bringing your baby to you for nursing
  • Diapering, burping, soothing and settling between feeds
  • Effective soothing techniques when your baby is fussy or unsettled
  • Help establishing restful night routines that match your parenting philosophy
  • A calm, experienced presence, so you are not navigating the hardest hours alone

Why do families book overnight support?

Sleepless nights after birth become exhausting when a baby is fussy, crying or unsettled on the hour. The emotional toll of constant interrupted sleep, combined with the unpredictability of a newborn, can make the days feel long. Overnight support lets you wake feeling more rested, better able to function and emotionally steadier through the day.

Is a night doula the same as a night nurse or night nanny?

Families use all three names for overnight newborn help. Our overnight doulas are trained postpartum doulas who provide non-medical newborn care and support your recovery; they are not licensed nurses. Two members of our team also hold the Newborn Care Specialist certification. Read more about newborn care specialists.

Who are the overnight doulas?

Doulas on our team who offer overnight support include Angela Zago, Caroline Sherman (also a Certified Newborn Care Specialist) and Daisy Veloz. After your intake call, founder Julia Gartner matches your family with the doula or doulas who fit your needs. Meet the whole team.

Can we combine overnight care with daytime or live-in support?

Yes. Hudson Valley Family Doulas offers daytime, overnight and short-term live-in postpartum support, and your plan can mix them as your needs change. The number of nights and the timing are planned with you during a private consultation.

How do we get started?

Call 845-288-1985 or send us a message. Many families book during pregnancy so support is in place when the baby comes home, and you can also reach out after the birth.

At Hudson Valley Family Doulas, we prioritize your individuality and mold our support into exactly what you need.
