Due to the amount of hours I had available from work, Julia set me up with a team of 3 doulas and 2 backup doulas. It was so amazing to have the postpartum doulas support. To be able to bond with my baby without having to worry about certain household chores was so nice, AS WELL AS the support to have them take care of the baby so I could rest and heal. Julia made the process so easy and the postpartum doulas were so sweet. I would recommend HVFD to everyone! Doulas are a BLESSING.

It has taken me 4 months since the birth of our daughter to sit down and write this because there truly aren’t enough words in the English language to describe how thoughtful, encouraging, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, hard-working and compassionate Doula Amber was.

My partner and I moved back to the United States from the EU in May while 4 months pregnant. We knew we would have a challenging home and job search and an even more complicated insurance situation, potentially making our prenatal care less than ideal and inconsistent. We decided to interview doulas because we knew we needed someone on our team who was wholeheartedly FOR US and WITH US 100%. After two interviews with other doulas (not in the HVFD group) we were sad and discouraged, they were not a good fit.

Enter Julia, who thoughtfully and respectfully interviewed my partner and I and connected us to Amber immediately. Julia heard us out and made a perfect decision on the first try.

Amber not only showed up for us at every turn, thoughtfully assembling information based on how we preferred to receive it (printed and spoken) and offering comfort measures that we held onto throughout our whole pregnancy, but also showed up in person for two prenatal visits, our birth, and a postpartum visit, even though we live quite far from her.

She was available 24/7. She encouraged us in every single interaction, she researched and shared local resources for us (placenta encapsulation, LGBTQ resources, etc), she was incredible throughout the pregnancy and gave me so much confidence going into birth.

That only continued in Labor and Delivery where she was always by my partner and my side, always knowing what I needed before I did, always respecting my choices, advocating to and working with the nurses and doctors and encouraging me to advocate for myself. My birth was empowering and amazing because of her. A true miracle. We shed tears of joy together. She is a literal angel.

I could truly go on for days, so I’ll just say that you are in luck! Your search for help during one of the most important times in your life is over - you are in great hands with Julia and her team of professional and wise birth workers at Hudson Valley Family Doulas.
